Word of the Year | Present

How is it already almost TWO weeks into 2023? As corny as it sounds, it is so true that the older you get, the faster time goes. I don't know if it goes even faster once you have kids, especially school aged, because you are just running here, there and everywhere all of the time, but let me tell you, time is flying already this year for me.
With that being said, one thing I like to do each year is choose a word of the year. I'm not totally big on resolutions or setting goals, per say, but I do love setting an intention for the new year. The last few years that has come with picking one word to focus on throughout the year.

This year, my word is PRESENT.
When I told my sweet husband that this was going to be my word of 2023, he simply asked, "so what does that mean to you?" And for me, being present is something I struggle with. My mind is always going 100MPH and I think being a mom makes me acutely aware of all the things that need to be done all of the time. When my kids ask me if I can come play, to be totally honest, most times the answer is, "sure, in a minute." or "I'd love to; let me just finish _____ first." I also have a nasty habit of just scrolling social media and losing track of time while around my kids or at the end of the day sitting on the couch with my husband. I don't want to do this anymore! Lastly, being present means fulling giving whatever I am doing my all and my full attention. Not trying to always multitask or get distracted by something else. I.e., when I am writing, or reading, or playing a game with the kids, to just do that one thing. To put the phone away and not allow the things that need to get done constantly be a distraction.
With that, my goal and intention for this year (hopefully this will just create better habits for the future) is to practice being more present. To pause all of the to-dos and learn to let maybe some things go temporarily, so that I can spend intentional, quality time being fully and completely present with my kids, husband, anyone else around me, and just doing the things I love to do. I want to take more intentional social media breaks and put the phone away more, so I can be fully present mind and body.

Do you set new year's resolutions or do a word of the year? I would love to hear what intentions you are setting as we start this next chapter of 2023. Share in the comments below! Maybe your word or goal can inspire someone else. I am so thankful for this space and for you. I pray over each and every one of you so many blessings in this new season. Thanks for being here.
Love you mama,
